Max Holloway Wants to Change What BMF Stands For
Max Holloway won the BMF title in a fight that deserved to be for the moniker of “Bad Mother F**ker.” Even when it was all over, the finish that echoed through UFC 300, winning Holloway a $600k bonus (fight of the night, performance of the night), Holloway gave credit where credit was due to Justin Gaethje and came up with a new acronym for the BMF title he now holds.
When asked in the post-fight press conference what was going through his mind in the final moments of the fight, Holloway said, “This is the moment. This is what BMF’s are known for, the baddest mother F-er.”
Then he said while he is holding that title he wants to change what those letters stand for, “ First of all I want to change the name to ‘Blessed Man Forever’, that’s what the belt means when I hold it. ‘Blessed Man Forever,’ but if that’s not a BMF moment I don’t know what is.”
Holloway was counted out by many when the fight was booked. He was the one moving up to weight class where Gaethje is ranked number 2 in the UFC’s official rankings and when he tried that previously in 2019, he fell short against Dustin Poirier. It was easy to count him out, but Holloway truly believes in himself when he says “the best is blessed” and he proved it at UFC 300.
Giving credit where credit is due, Holloway felt if the cards were in Gaethje’s favor and there were 10 seconds left in the round, Gaethje would have still been obliged to go toe-to-toe as they did. “He’s a bad man,” said Holloway.
He added, “I don’t know if I’m ever going to share the octagon with him again. He’s a legend brother. These are the type of fights, the type of stuff you do to etch your name in the history books, and I’m just happy that I was the one landing.”
