Maycee Barber extends win streak to five-straight with TKO of Amanda Ribas at UFC on ABC 5

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, June 24, 2023, for UFC on ABC 5, going down live from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Headlining the event is an epic clash of featherweight contenders where no. 5 ranked Josh Emmett (18-3) collides with no. 9 ranked Ilia Topuria (13-0) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining was a flyweight affair between another pair of contenders in no. 9 ranked Amanda Ribas (12-4) and no. 11 ranked Maycee Barber (13-2).

Following a three-fight knockout streak to begin her UFC tenure, Barber then dropped two-straight before coming into this bout on a four-fight win streak with wins over the likes of Miranda Maverick (SD), Montana De La Rosa (UD), Jessica Eye (UD), and Andrea Lee (SD).

Ribas on the other hand, following a four-fight win streak to begin her UFC career with wins over Mackenzie Dern (UD) and Paige VanZant (armbar), had since gone 2-2, coming into this bout off a win over Viviane Araujo (UD).

Official Result: Maycee Barber def. Amanda Ribas via TKO (punches) at 3:42 of round two

Ribas secures a nice head throw midway through the opening round and immediately spins from side control into Barber’s half guard. Barber gets back to her feet quickly however. Once another scramble ensues, Barber gains top position where she really pounds away at Ribas’ face for the final 90 or so seconds of round one.

Ribas has a good start to round two as well, accumulating some top control time and landing some good strikes on the feet.

Barber catches her with a nice left head kick, and not long thereafter lands a hard right hand that drops Ribas. Some more vicious ground and pound later and the referee stops the action, seeing Barber pick up her first finish since she was still an undefeated talent back in 2019.

Maycee Barber extends her win streak to five-straight today with this knockout victory over Amanda Ribas at UFC on ABC 5.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
