Michael Bisping believes Tom Aspinall is the man to defeat Jon Jones
Former UFC middleweight champion and Hall of Famer Michael Bisping believes fellow Englishman Tom Aspinall is the man to defeat heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Bisping called Aspinall’s recent UFC London main event where he took out veteran Marcin Tybura in the first round. It was an incredible performance by Aspinall, particularly since it was his first fight since last summer when he suffered a serious knee injury in a loss to Curtis Blaydes. One year later, Aspinall is back in the Octagon and truly looking better than ever. So good, in fact, that Bisping now believes that Aspinall has what it takes to be the first man to legitimately defeat Jones.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bisping explained why he thinks his fellow Brit is the right man to dethrone the kingpin Jones.
“Jon Jones is the heavyweight champion. He’s an incredible fighter. He’s incredible. He’s one of the greatest of all time. I don’t think he can hold a candle to Tom. I think Tom will do the same thing to Jon Jones as what he did to Marcin Tybura. I don’t think there’s anyone that can stop Tom Aspinall. He’s that good,” Bisping said (via MMAjunkie.com).
Although Bisping has always been high on Aspinall, it was the way he ran through Tybura that has convinced “The Count” that Aspinall is the man who is going to be the next UFC heavyweight champion of the world.
“Tom Aspinall was utterly fantastic. That’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen from a heavyweight. Marcin Tybura, the guy that he beat, is no walk in the park. He’s won seven of his last eight against world class opposition, and Tom just blew threw him like he was nothing,” Bisping said. “And I do 100 percent believe that he will be the champion. In fact, I know he will be the champion barring any freak injury or something terrible or bad luck happens. He will be the champion of the world.”
Do you agree with Michael Bisping that Tom Aspinall would beat Jon Jones?
