Michael Chandler hopeful to get rematch with ‘savage’ Charles Oliveira

Michael Chandler wants to run it back with Charles Oliveira.

Chandler and Oliveira fought for the vacant lightweight title back at UFC 262 in a fight many fans were intrigued by. In the first round, Chandler rocked Oliveira and nearly finished him as the judges gave him a 10-8 round. Yet, just seconds into the second round, Oliveira landed a big shot and knocked Chandler out.

Since then, Oliveira ended up defending beating Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje but lost to Islam Makhachev. To rebound from the loss, the Brazilian beat Beneil Dariush by first-round TKO which Chandler says was a great performance.

“Guys, Charles Oliveira is an absolute savage,” Chandler said on his YouTube channel. “Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush; Dariush on a long win streak, Charles Oliveira obviously with a ton of fire still in his belly wanting to get that UFC title. Charles Oliveira showed up under the brightest lights, the biggest opportunity, a title eliminator to get him back to a title shot. And it remains to be seen if he will get the next title shot against Islam Makhachev, but the way that he fought Saturday night at UFC 289, the dude looks like he is coming back for that title.”

With Charles Oliveira winning, it is likely he will face Islam Makhachev again in October. Michael Chandler, meanwhile, is coaching TUF 31 against Conor McGregor and they will likely fight later this year or early next.

However, even though both Oliveira and Chandler have their next fight booked, ‘Iron’ wants the chance to rematch the Brazilian before his career is over.

“I hope to share the Octagon with him again, eventually,” Chandler said about Oliveira. “I would like to run that one back, obviously. But the way he looked that night against Dariush (at) UFC 289 was absolutely masterful. Hat’s off to you Charles, God bless. See you at the top.”
