Michelle Waterson dealing with potential “career-ending” injury ahead of UFC 274
UFC women’s strawweight star Michelle Waterson revealed that she is dealing with a potential “career-ending” injury ahead of UFC 274. While Waterson has not yet disclosed what that injury may be, it has raised cause for concern.
Waterson is dealing with an injury at the moment, one that forced her planned March 26 bout against Amanda Ribas to UFC 274 in May. However, it’s possible that even the new date won’t work for Waterson, either. At this point, the fight with Ribas appears to be in jeopardy since Waterson currently can’t compete. She is holding out hope that the UFC will be able to keep the fight together, but with so many question marks surrounding Waterson’s return now, it’s possible that the UFC plays it safe with Ribas and tries to get her another opponent for UFC 274 instead.
“What’s going on guys, I just want to check-in. I know all of you follow me here for my fight career, my fight info. (I’m) supposed to be fighting (on) March 26 and due to circumstances, I’m not going to be able to do that,” Waterson said on her Instagram (via BJPenn.com). “I’m hoping, keeping my fingers crossed that it is a short break. It’s an injury that stopped me from training, and it’s heartbreaking. I was really excited to fight Amanda. I know she was very excited to fight, as well, so hopefully, it’s a fight that we can still have. But if I don’t take care of this injury, it will turn into something that can be worse and career-ending. So, I just want to keep you guys posted and I will keep you posted as to when I’m rescheduled to fight.”

Waterson is currently the No. 8 ranked women’s strawweight, while Ribas is ranked just behind her at No. 9. It will be interesting to see if the UFC matchmakers keep the fight together or opt to give Ribas a new opponent.
We here at MYMMANews wish Michelle Waterson the best in her recovery from this injury.
