Mike Brown gives ATT update; talks Dustin Poirier, Jorge Masvidal & Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Mike Brown is one of the best head coaches in the sport of mixed martial arts.
The American Top Team coach trains some of the best talent in world and over the weekend he was on site for the grand opening the gyms newest location on the outskirts of Penn State.
American Top Team Happy Valley is officially up and running with former Penn State wrestling star Bo Nickal serving as the gym’s wrestling coach while he prepares for his first amateur MMA fight later this year.
At the gym’s grand opening, Brown spoke to MyMMANews to discuss the newest American Top Team gym and his excitement of eventually having the greatest wrestling talent in the world funnel through the gym on way to becoming fighters.
Aside from talking about the gym, he also discussed some of the fighters he currently trains.
Dustin Poirier
Poirier is a long time student of Brown’s and as of late he has become one of, if not the best, lightweight fighter on the planet and claimed an interim lightweight title in 2019. Brown talked about Poirier’s UFC 264 win over Conor McGregor, the possibility of a fourth fight with the sports biggest superstar, a lightweight title fight with current champion Charles Oliveira and a possible matchup with Nate Diaz.
Jorge Masvidal
Masvidal is another longtime athlete of Brown’s, who reached superstar status after his knockouts of Darren Till and Ben Askren, the “three piece and a soda” to Leon Edwards and his BMF championship win of Diaz at UFC 244. Brown spoke and about Masvidal’s next move after back-to-back welterweight title losses to Kamaru Usman.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Jedrzejczyk hasn’t been at American Top Team as long as Poirier and Masvidal, but the most successful strawweight in UFC history has been learning under Brown since 2016. Brown discussed her strong mindset, work ethic and what’s next for her.
Cody Law
Law is an upcoming prospect at American Top Team and the gym’s owner, Dan Lambert has called the undefeated Bellator featherweight the best young prospect they have in the gym. Brown serves has Law’s head coach and has coached him to all four of his professional wins. Brown talked about Law’s future and how he believes he will eventually win the Bellator featherweight title.
