‘Platinum’ Mike Perry pulls out much needed win

It took a second shot at a cowboy and a second UFC fight in Florida for Orlando native Mike Perry to feel “Platinum” again, as he defeated Alex Oliveira by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) on the main card of UFC on ESPN+: Jacare vs Hermansson at the BT&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Perry (13-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) was 1-3 in his last four fights and coming off a loss by armbar to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in November. Three fights ago he had lost to Max Griffin in his hometown.

“This was my redemption,” Perry said during the post-fight interview in the cage.

Perry landed a lead uppercut early in the first round that was a foretelling of the wild fight that was to come, as both fighters had success with their striking. The end of the second round saw Perry high-crotch Oliveira and send him flying. Moments later, Oliveira was back on his feet and broke his toe landing a kick.

The third round saw Perry start to take control in the striking exchanges, nearly finishing the “Cowboy” at one point as he landed several unanswered blows. Perry climbed the cage to soak in the cheers of his home town at the end of the fight.
