Miranda Maverick steps up on short notice to fight Erin Blanchfield at UFC 269
UFC women’s flyweight prospect Miranda Maverick has stepped up on short notice to fight Erin Blanchfield at next month’s UFC 269 PPV event.
Blanchfield was originally set to fight Maycee Barber on the UFC 269 undercard in an important fight between two young prospects on the rise at 125lbs. However, with Barber out due to an injury, the UFC needed to find someone else to fight Blanchfield. In a strange twist of fate, the fighter who Barber just defeated back in July in Maverick will step up on short notice for her against Blanchfield. MMAjunkie.com first reported that Maverick vs. Blanchfield is on deck for UFC 269, which takes place on December 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s the final UFC PPV card of 2021.
Blanchfield (7-1) is just 22 years old and she scored a decision win in her UFC debut back in September when she defeated Sarah Alpar. Blanchfield is a former Invicta FC and CFFC standout who also holds notable wins over current UFC fighters Victoria Leonardo and Kay Hansen.
Maverick (9-3) is just 24 and she made her UFC debut last year. Since then, Maverick is 2-1 with wins over Liana Jojua and Gillian Robertson with her lone loss coming against Barber. Maverick is also a former Invicta FC fighter so the Blanchfield fight will be a meeting of Invicta FC veterans when it goes down.
It’s worth noting that Barber was the No. 13 ranked fighter in the UFC women’s flyweight division, while Maverick is unranked, so Blanchfield is likely to lose her opportunity to jump into the rankings with a win. Having said that, most fans and media did think that Maverick did enough to edge past Barber back in the summer, so even though she’s not ranked, it might actually be a better win.
Who do you think wins this women’s flyweight bout at UFC 269, Miranda Maverick or Erin Blanchfield?
