New York, July 23 — MMA World Expo, presented by Toyota and Fighters Source, will reconvene for the 5th consecutive year at the Jacob Javits Center, North Pavilion this July 26th and 27th and will feature live amateur MMA action, recent and legendary MMA champions and a host of other activities including catch wrestling, grappling, seminars, clinics and more.
Featured celebrities at the Expo this year include: MMA legend and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva; current UFC fighter, Olympian, Pride & Strikeforce champion Dan “Hendo” Henderson; and current UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. Also appearing will be WSOF current middleweight David Branch, former UFC heavyweight champion, Ricco Rodriguez, and TUF 19 champion Eddie “Truck” Gordon, who will be signing autographs, meeting fans and conducting training seminars right on the show floor.
MMA World Expo has partnered with Fighters Source, the very first international league for amateur MMA, to bring their National Championships to New York City as the Expo’s main event on Saturday evening, July 26th from 6 – 9 pm. Amateur fighters from across the US have competed for the chance to fight at the National Championships and the victors of these Nationals will advance to represent Team USA at the World Championships in London, England.
For grappling fans and competitors, the MMA World Expo will bring the most prestigious name in submission grappling, Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) America, to this year’s show. ADCC America will hold tournaments on both Expo days offering gi and no-gi competition across dozens of divisions, including women’s and children’s. ADCC America will also showcase grappling celebrities like Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Tom DeBlass in its superfights on both days.
In addition to ADCC, the MMA World Expo will also host the 2014 Catch-as-Catch-Can World Championships, the first catch wrestling world championship in over 90 years. The tournament takes place on Sunday, July 26th from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. There will also be a free catch wrestling seminar taking place before the tournament from 10:30 am – 11:30 am.
The MMA World Expo has expanded its exhibit hall space to make room for even more attractions available to fight fans. Among the activities will be hands-on instruction via the Training-with-the-Masters classes, MMA documentaries and short films, seminars, and a selection of MMA schools offering prospective students a chance to meet with instructors and staff. Free seminars open to the public include Golden Gloves boxing, take-downs and MMA training with MMA pioneer, Ricco ‘Suave’ Rodriguez and UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter 19 winner, Eddie “Truck” Gordon.
To show its support for the growth of the sport, the Expo will also host two panel discussions. The first will be address Legalizing MMA in New York, while the second will address the Future of Amateur MMA. As usual, the MMA World Expo will fill the panel with established MMA journalists, local politicians and other expert stake-holders. On hand at the expo will be a variety of professional and amateur fight promotions, including the World Series of Fighting, Fighters Source, Glory, Golden MMA Championships. Owners, staff, and fighters will be available from these organizations for meet-and-greets in their respective booths.
