Molly McCann eyes Antonina Shevchenko after UFC London win: ‘Am I Valentina ready? No. Am I Antonina ready? Let’s see’
Molly McCann has her eyes on Antonina Shevchenko for her next fight.
McCann extended her win streak to three on Saturday as she scored a first-round TKO over Hannah Goldy, as she used another spinning elbow. It was a solid performance from the Brit and after the fight, she made it known she wants to test herself against Shevchenko who picked up a win last time out.
“So I never call anyone out. It’s not for me to do,” McCann said after UFC London. “But when you talk about legacy, prestige, honor, who’s the best in the game – and it’s Valentina (Shevchenko). Am I Valentina ready? No. Am I Antonina ready? Let’s see. I believe I am. This isn’t like a diss. This isn’t like, ‘I think I’m gonna ‘f**k you everywhere.’
“No, it’s not. But I genuinely think this is an amazing fight to have, and if they do one fight camp for me, if I ever make it to Shevchenko, they’ll have the blueprint. But I’ll also have the blueprint because I’ll know how to beat her sister,” McCann continued. “So with the greatest respect, I’ve said her name because I think she is the best. So I would like you to tell her that I believe she is the best, that’s why I’m trying to challenge her for that.”
Molly McCann, as mentioned, is on a three-fight win streak, and before the win over Goldy, she knocked out Luana Carolina and beat Ji Yeon Kim by decision. The victory over Kim snapped her two-fight skid after dropping decisions to Lara Procopio and Taila Santos.
Antonina Shevchenko, meanwhile, is 10-4 and returned to the win column last time out as she won a split decision over Cortney Casey. Prior to that, she suffered a TKO loss to Casey O’Neill and was submitted by Andrea Lee. In the UFC, Shevchenko is 4-4 with her other wins over Kim, Ariane Lipski, and Lucie Pudilova.
