Molly McCann lands spinning elbow again, knocks Hannah Goldy out at UFC London

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, July 23, 2022, for UFC Fight Night 208, going down live from the o2 Arena in London, England.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight clash of contenders between no. 4 Curtis Blaydes (16-3) and no. 6 Tom Aspinall (12-2), and co-headlining is a middleweight contest between Jack Hermansson (22-7) and Chris Curtis (29-8).

Our second bout on the main card came in the women’s flyweight division between probable Knockout of the Year winner Molly McCann (12-4) and Hannah Goldy (6-2).

Prior to their respective starts in MMA, McCann went 17-0 as an amateur boxer, while Goldy went 1-0 in boxing and 3-0 in kickboxing.

Official Result: Molly McCann def. Hannah Goldy via TKO (punches & spinning elbow) at 3:52 of round one

McCann gets her boxing going once the fight begins, and lands some nice punches before Goldy rushes in on a takedown attempt.

Goldy’s strength is apparent, as she’s able to hold McCann along the fence for a minute or so.

Once McCann separates and is back to striking range, Goldy shoots on another single leg. McCann cracks her with an elbow and she lets go. McCann starts to land some serious punches once they’re back to striking range, starting with an overhand right that hurt Goldy.

McCann then follows her to the fence, lands a nasty spinning back elbow, the same one she beat Luana Carolina with back in March, and followed it up with heavy punches from both hands to secure the finish.

After losing her UFC debut, Molly McCann would go 4-2 over her next six contests, all of them ending in a decision.

To look at her last two performances, wow. Both knockouts, both spinning back elbows, just incredible.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
