Mousasi retains title, TKO’s Salter in three at Bellator 264

Bellator MMA hosts Bellator 264 tonight, August 13, from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. In the main event, Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi defends his title against John Salter. In the co-headliner, former welterweight champ Andrey Koreshkov meets Sabah Homasi.

In the main event of the evening, Mousasi makes his first title defense after re-capturing it in his last outing against Douglas Lima at Bellator 250. Tonight, he faces a dangerous, well-rounded John Salter

Salter, currently riding a 3-fight win streak looks to dethrone the legendary “Dream Catcher” Gerard Mousasi. With only one decision to his record, Salters well rounded finishing skills could pay dividends for John Salter in the biggest fight of his life.


Round 1: with a slight feeling out process that had Mousasi pushing the pressure, Mousasi lands A two piece upstairs. Salter wisely circles until he finds his opportune moment to get Mousasi to the ground. Salter secures full mount momentarily. Mousasi gets to his feet, with Salter slowly and vigilantly inching to Mousasi’s back. Mousasi reverses and gets back to his feet. Salter dives again for the takedown but is fended off smartly by Mousasi, who landed a few scoring knees in the advancing attempt.

Round 2: both fighters land respective punches to start the round. Mousasi is walking Salter down, landing punches while keeping Salter off balance. Mousasi throws a head kick leading to more assaulting punches, keeping the pressure high to make sure Salter is moving backward. Salter switches levels and drives hard for another takedown. Mousasi avoids the takedown and reverses, landing in top position. Mousasi proceeds to stack Salter against the fence and begins teeing off hard strikes, withering away at Salter. With The referee looking on closely and my saucy hammering away with elbows, Salter is saved by the bell.

Round 3: Mousasi continues the hearts early in the third, throwing punches out to make sure they touch. Salter attempts another takedown, with Mousasi landing in the top position amidst a scramble. Mousasi begins opening up a plethora of strikes, switching from punching to elbows until the referee sees enough, calling a halt to the contest.
