MTK Global’s Josh Taylor Set To Defend Titles Against Apinun Kongsong
Josh Taylor is set to return to the boxing ring as he will defend his IBF title against Apinun Khongsong of Thailand on September 26th. The fight will air live on BT Sport and ESPN.
Taylor is 16-0 and is coming off of a huge win over Regis Prograis in the WBSS and won the WBA and Ring Magazine title to his collection.
Now Taylor looks to take on the mandatory IBF challenger who is the IBF Pan Pacific and IBF Asian champion. Khongsong also sits at 16-0 as well.
Queensbury Promotions president, Frank Warren, is excited for Taylor to take on the mandatory challenger.
“Josh is a world class operator and I am delighted that we are playing host to what is an important mandatory defense.”
Warren believes that Taylor is bound for fame in the states but knows that the mandatory from the IBF is an important part of his journey.
“Josh is doubtless set for many big nights over in the States but he has got business to attend to here first and we are backing him to win, not least because a huge fight with our own Jack Catterall is there to be made a little further down the line.”
Frank Warren continues to bring boxing back and touts Josh Taylor as the next step in the upping of the level of boxing returning for boxing fans around the world.
“We have successfully played our part in bringing boxing back for the fans on TV and I said all along that we would be upping the levels as we go along and that is what we are doing here. I am thrilled we have secured Josh to perform on the BT Sport platform.”
Bob Arum on Josh Taylor
Bob Arum, the legendary promoter, is also very high on Taylor. He thinks he is on his way to a shot at an undisputed title soon.
“Josh Taylor is on a collision course to a fight for the undisputed title, but he must first get past a very tough Thai fighter in Khongsong.”
Arum is also excited to show the world what Josh Taylor can do on such big platforms as BT Sports and ESPN+.
“We are delighted that Josh’s talents will be shown live to ESPN+ and BT Sport viewers, and I expect a spectacular performance come Sept. 26.”
Jamie Conlan is the Vice President of MTK Global. Conlan is optimistic on the partnership of Taylor and MTK Global and is ready to get the 140 pound division back to action.
“Delighted to see the best fighter in the 140 pound division back in action, Josh has used the pandemic to his own advantage using the layoff to spend more time with his new coach Ben Davison and building a relationship together.”
Conlan reiterates how tough an opponent Kongsong is. He knows Taylor has a tough night ahead of him and says not to overlook the Thai.
“Khongsong provides a real tough test as he’s the mandatory for a reason, undefeated and a big puncher, Josh really needs to be on his game to keep the big fight with Jose Ramirez in the pipeline.”
