Neil Magny dominates Robbie Lawler in welterweight clash

UFC on ESPN+ 33: The world’s largest MMA promotion is back at it again for UFC on ESPN+ 33 tonight, Saturday, Aug. 29.

A light-heavyweight clash between former title challenger Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic headlines the event in the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The co-main event is a welterweight clash between former champion Robbie Lawlor and Neil Magny.

Journeyman Robbie Lawler is coming off of a rough 2019 after consecutive losses to both Ben Askren and Colby Covington.

Conversely, Magny is coming off of consecutive victories in 2020. His most recent, less than two months ago, with a win over Anthony Rocco Martin.

Neil Magny dominated Robbie Lawler in the co-main event. The early part of the fight was Magny using superior takedown positions to gas Lawler.

As the fight progressed Magny was able to piece apart Lawler on the feet, including a vicious nose strike. Magny looked dominant in his performance and one of his best wins moving forward in the welterweight division.

(30-27; 30-27; 30-27)

Round One:

Early in the round Magny is keeping Lawler at bay with his reach. Fight goes to the ground it seems to be Magney on top while Lawler is trying to get position. Magney goes for a rear naked halfway through the first round but Lawler is able to fight it off. Dominant round for Magny.

10-9 Magny

Round Two:

Magny gets the early take down in round two and spent half the round trying to get Lawler in a rear naked choke. So far Lawler is able to fight it off but you have to wonder how much longer he can do this. This could be a 10-8 round for Magny.

20-17 Magny

Round Three:

Magny is spending this round more conservatively. Lawler tried to pressure early and get a little bit of ground back but so far this is Magny’s fight to win.

30-26 Magny
