Nick Diaz wants fight against Israel Adesanya “if he gets his title back”
It has been 11 years since Nick Diaz had his hand raised in victory in the center of the UFC octagon, but that isn’t stopping the Stockton, California native from chasing high hopes.
Diaz, 39, has only had one UFC fights in the past seven years, and it was a brutal loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in September 2021.
Despite the inactivity, Diaz is promising a comeback in 2023 and even has a name in mind when it comes to possible opponents.
“You can see me back on top in 2023, I’m making a comeback,” Diaz said while at Crazy Horse 3 in Las Vegas to watch UFC 282. “I’m going to be quicker than ever, stronger than ever, better than ever — I’m just gonna be a whole new me. Whoever is on top at the time [I want], preferably Israel Adesanya, if he gets his title back.”
Adesanya lost his coveted UFC middleweight title in a trilogy bout against Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in November.
Diaz’s last victory was when he defeated BJ Penn at UFC 137 in October 2011.
