ONE: Battleground II results (Zhang Lipeng and Alex Silva victorious)

ONE Championship returned with a tape-delayed event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This five-fight MMA card aired on Friday, August 13th, and here are your ONE: Battleground II results.

In the main event,  Zhang Lipeng made a huge impression in his ONE Championship debut. He bested former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang.

Zhang encroached forward steadily and got Folayang to the ground early. Successfully controlling him on the mat thereafter. Zhang was also able to take the back of the Team Lakay staple and threaten with a rear-naked choke in round one.

I the second frame, Folayang tried to implement his leg kicks. But Zhang again got things to the mat, this time with a blast double.

More meaningful takedown moments for Zhang in the final frame sealed the deal. Zhang Lipeng swept the judges’ scorecards to win the top of the marquee fight by unanimous decision.

Silva goes the distance and Ngalani-Narmo calamity

Former ONE Strawweight World Champion Alex Silva also used a grappling-heavy approach in his Miao Li Tao fight. He got things on the mat and earned an irrefutable unanimous decision. The current #5-ranked strawweight contender threatened with submissions early in the first round. Silva caught Miao in a seemingly deep armbar attempt. Though the second and third frames had less attempts at finishing sequences, there was still grappling dominance for Silva right up until the final bell.

The action movie-Esque collision of leviathans between ONE debutant Thomas Narmo and heavyweight stalwart Alain Ngalani ended prematurely. An errant low blow from Ngalani halted things after multiple accidental groin strikes through the bout’s duration. This accidental soccer kick to the nether regions left the towering Narmo a heap on the canvas. At that juncture, the bout that was exciting up until that final sequence was ruled a no-contest (NC).

Eko Roni Saputra sparked out Liu Peng Shuai in record time for ONE flyweights in MMA. He notched a sensational 10-second KO in the first frame that almost made this writer jump out of his chair. A crushing right hand notched Saputra his fifth straight stoppage victory in the opening frame of the contest.

In a lightweight affair, Rahul Raju stymied Otgonbaatar Nergui after the latter came out strong. Nergui was quite aggressive in the first frame until the gas tank started to deplete a bit seemingly. Raju turned the tides with his grappling technique and used a rear-naked choke to elicit a tap in the second stanza.
