Parker Porter discusses his first career UFC finish at UFC 288

Parker Porter is all smiles after UFC 288 and for good reason.

The obvious reason why he’s happy is because he defeated Braxton Smith at UFC 288 by a first round TKO. That TKO win marked his fourth inside of the octagon, but his first UFC finish.

Throughout his career, Porter’s wife has always been by her husband’s side, but she was unable to attend any of his UFC fights since he joined the promotion in 2020.

Finally, at UFC 288, she was in attendance and Porter’s mother joined her at octagon side.

Following the fight, while Porter did his victory interview with Joe Rogan inside of the octagon, he was emotional that his wife and mother were there.

The tears he shed inside of the octagon were all tears of joy and following the fight he had some more great moments with his team and his family and he’s hoping they’ll be much more of those in the future.

Right now, Porter is technically a free agent as UFC 288 marked the final fight on his UFC contract.

Porter doesn’t expect to be a free agent for too long as he wants another UFC contract and he’s hoping to resign with the promotion as soon as possible so he can fight on the UFC Boston card in August.

In the meantime, Porter is back in the gym training and getting better.

Following his UFC 284 loss to Justin Tafa back in February, Porter and his team met and made some serious changes.

The biggest change that made the most impact was Porter’s diet.

Porter came into UFC 288 the leanest he’s been in his UFC career and that was the key to win as Porter was able to move quickly around the octagon and read his opponent’s quickly.

That change is just the beginning for Porter as he wants to continue to get leaner and fitter as he continues to fight.

Porter also wants to start using his other skill sets.

He is known to brawl inside of the cage, but he has a great ground game as he recently just celebrated getting his black belt in jiu jitsu. Now Porter will look to show off those skills in his next outing.

Following his win at UFC 288, Porter spoke with MyMMANews to discuss his performance, coming into the fight leaner, his black belt and his great family moment following his win.
