Pat Walsh, Carlos Zevallos ready to rumble at CES 38
Will Pat “The Beast of the East” Walsh live up to his nickname when he clashes with Carlos Zevallos at CES 38 on September 23 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut?
The Boston product replies with a quick “yes,” knowing he needs an impressive win to get back to the Octagon.
“I’m much better now than when I was in the UFC and a hundred times better than when I was on The Ultimate Fighter. I’m bigger, I’m stronger, and I’m a bit wiser,” said the former The Ohio State University wrestler, who’s making his fourth appearance in the CES MMA cage. “I’m now in my peak, and more dangerous than ever.”
Zevallos, a Blackzilians teammate of CES MMA 38 headliner Sean Soriano, respects his opponent. But he isn’t impressed by the hype.
“Pat is pretty tough, but I’ve fought tougher opponents in the past,” said Zevallos. “He’s a wrestler who comes forward, throws punches and tries to go for the takedown. The guys I spar with are pretty high-level too, though, so I’m sure he doesn’t have anything I haven’t seen before.”
Walsh hammered his way to a dominant, first-round stoppage over Leroy Johnson, a previously unbeaten top heavyweight prospect, when the two met in August. “The Beast of the East” plans on doing the same versus Zevallos.
“I want finishes. That’s what’s exciting,” Walsh said. “Now when I envision my wins, I’m picturing myself winning in the first round each and every time. Now it’s just a matter of carrying out those visualizations.”
Zevallos has a different vision. With a big victory over Walsh, the Blackzilian can establish himself in New England, like his teammates Soriano and CES MMA Bantamweight Champion, Andre Soukhamthath.
“Man, that would be great,” said Zevallos, smiling. “I have big aspirations with CES MMA, so this fight is going to be very exciting.”
