Patricio Freire vs. Pedro Carvalho rebooked for Nov. 12
Patricio Freire and Pedro Carvalho will finally meet in the Bellator cage. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
Originally the two were booked to fight in March, but the fight was cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Now the fight has been rescheduled for Nov. 12, which will be a Thursday night card. The fight also marks the return of the Bellator featherweight grand prix with the two men in the quarterfinals.
Freire (30-4), who is best known as “Pitbull,” is current Bellator featherweight and lightweight champion. He defeated current Bantamweight champion Juan Archuleta in the opening round of the tournament. Meanwhile, Carvalho (11-3) won his opening matchup against Sam Sicilia by second-round submission.
The other remaining fighters in the grand prix are Daniel Weichel, Emmanuel Sanchez, A.J. McKee and Darrion Caldwell.
Pitbull is currently riding a five-fight winning streak in which his biggest win came over Michael Chandler at Bellator 221 in which he added the lightweight championship to his resume. His last loss came against Benson Henderson at Bellator 160 in August 2016.
Carvalho is signed with Bellator 2018 and he is a perfect 4-0 inside the Bellator cage.
At this time no other fights have been rescheduled in the featherweight grand prix and no other fights have been announced for the Nov. 12 event, which is expected to be Bellator 251. The Nov. 12 card will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
