Paulo Costa’s team releases statement following accusation
On Tuesday, it was reported that #4 UFC middleweight, Paulo Costa, had been taken into custody following an altercation over the COVID-19 vaccine between himself and a nurse.
Reportedly, the vaccine was not administered, however, Costa was persistent in receiving the vaccination card regardless. The altercation resulted in an accusation of Costa striking a nurse.
Over the last few days, Costa has seemed to make fun of the situation via Twitter, stating such things as “I know how to do my f*ck self vaccination, if you want to do come and bring your card please,” and “call the f*ck police.”

Yesterday, Costa and his team released an official statement via Instagram which stated the following:
“We must present some clarifications.”
“First, tending to sensationalism, these are reckless and inconsistent.”
“The athlete Paulo Costa – ‘Borrachinha’ and his entire team reject any type of violence.”
“According to his philosophy and human conduct this kind of allegations are completely incompatible with his history and way of life.”
“The accusations and facts narrated do not reflect the reality of what happened.”

The altercation and statement come just a couple of months prior to Costa’s return to the octagon. Come August, Costa is set to meet Luke Rockhold at UFC 278, which takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah.
