Pettis vs Dos Anjos announced for Dallas
Yesterday at UFC 182 it was announced that current UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis would return to the cage in March to defend his title against challenger, Rafael dos Anjos.
Pettis, (18-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) defeated Gilbert Melendez via guillotine choke in December after being out of the cage for more than a year due to injury and a gig as a coach opposite Melendez on season 20 of the Ultimate Fighter.
The 27-year-old Roufusport fighter and former WEC champ submitted then-champ Benson Henderson to win the title in his bout prior to Melendez.
Dos Anjos, (23-7 MMA, 12-5 UFC) defeated Nate Diaz via unanimous decision one week after Pettis earned his win.
Pettis is ranked number in the lightweight division and number five pound-for-pound. Dos Anjos is currently ranked number three in the lightweight division.
Pettis vs. Dos Anjos will take place March 14 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on pay-per-view. The fight will headline UFC 185. Preliminary bouts for the card will air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
No other fights for UFC 185 have been announced as of yet.
