PFL 3 Announced For May 6th, Fabricio Werdum & Kayla Harrison Involved
The PFL has announced the third card of the upcoming regular season on May 6, which will feature fighters from the heavyweight and women’s lightweight division.
At the top of the bill at PFL 3, we will see the debut of former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum after he signed a deal with the PFL after testing free agency in 2020, against promotional newcomer Renan Ferreira.
The co-main event will include, PFL champion Kayla Harrison will return to defend her throne in the women’s lightweight division as she faces also faces newcomer Mariana Morais.
Starting off with the main event, Werdum will be entering his debut coming of a first round submission against former UFC title challenger Alexander Gustafsson. That win was the end of the former champs UFC tenure after he tested free agency and ultimately signed for PFL later down the line. Since returning from his USADA suspension in 2020, Werdum has gone 1-1.
His opponent, Ferreira (6-2), is coming off a submission win in August 2019 at LFA 74. The 31-year-old is 4-1 in his past five bouts. A member of Team Nogueira, Ferreira finished UFC competitor Jared Vanderaa in his last appearance in 2019.
Co-main event time, as PFL champ Harrison (8-0) looks keep her unbeaten run in MMA. She was last in action last November when she picked up a TKO win over Courtney King at Invicta FC 43. Yes Invicta, despite her being under contract with the PFL. Harrison was given the green light to compete outside the promotion after their 2020 season was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Morais (16-10), comes into the fight on a three winning streak, which is her best streak since 2014 after she collected a five fight winning streak. Morais earned her contract after competing on a Shooto Brazil event where she won two fights in one night and she’ll look to pull off the huge upset in her promotional debut while going up against a two-time Olympic gold medalist in Harrison.
