Rafael dos Anjos, Vicente Luque

Rafael dos Anjos vs Vicente Luque slated for UFC Fight Night 225

We’ve got an exciting matchup of Brazilian contenders going down this summer, as former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is slated to face no. 10 ranked Vicente Luque at UFC Fight Night 225.

UFC Fight Night 225 is to go down on August 12, 2023, live from a to-be-determined venue and location.

These two were originally expected to face one another at UFC Fight Night 224 in July but were moved to the next FN event for unknown reasons.

Rafael dos Anjos just returned to 170 lbs in his latest appearance, where he submitted (neck crank) Bryan Barberena in December of last year. Prior to that, he’d returned to the lightweight division following a 4-4 run at welterweight, where he went 2-1, defeating the likes of Paul Felder and Renato Moicano, and losing to Rafael Fiziev.

Vicente Luque on the other hand, though has shocked a lot of people with his remarkable career resurgence, has had some hiccups lately.

A loss in his UFC debut saw him fall to 7-5-1, before he’d go 14-2 over his next 16 bouts with 13 finishes (8 knockouts, 5 submissions), only losing to current welterweight champion Leon Edwards and two-time title challenger Stephen Thompson.

However, since then he’s lost his last two-straight to no. 3 ranked Belal Muhammad, someone he KO’d in a mere 79 seconds the first time around, and then no. 8 ranked Geoff Neal, which showcased the first time he’d ever been knocked out.

Both talents are dangerous on the mat, each of them boasting black belts in BJJ, and each of them are great strikers, with dos Anjos having a black belt in Muay Thai, and Luque acquiring over half of his career wins via knockout.

Who do you see coming out on top in this epic welterweight encounter going down at UFC Fight Night 225?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
