Renato Moicano

Renato Moicano pulled from Fight Island bout

Renato Moicano withdraws from Fight Island clash with Magomed Mustafaev on October 10th.

Renato Moicano was set to make his second appearance as a lightweight   fighter in the UFC on Oct. 17, taking on Russian born Magomed Mustafaev in Abu Dhabi’s Fight Island as UFC heads back for a second time, but he was pulled from the bout due to undisclosed circumstances, following a official report from Ag. Fight.

Moicano (14-3-1) produced a quite impressive showing in his 155-pound debut in March, making it a quick night as he finished Damir Hadzovic with a 44-second rear-naked choke finish in Brazil. Moicano went 5-3 as a featherweight in the octagon, including wins over veterans Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens.

Mustafaev (14-4) won three of five under the UFC promotion since joining the MMA giants back in 2015, a threefold of stoppages consisting of Rafael Fiziev, Joe Proctor and Piotr Hallmann. “The Sniper” is looking to get back in the win column after falling short in a losing effort via split decision to Brad Riddell in February at UFC on ESPN+ 26: Felder vs. Hooker.

It’s still uncertain if the UFC will schedule  Mustafaev against a new opponent at the Fight Night event in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The event will be headlined by a featherweight matchup at the top of the ladder, Brian Ortega vs. “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.

With the cancellation the UFC on ESPN+ 39 now looks like:

145lbs: Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung
125 lbs: Jessica Andrade vs. Katlyn Chookagian
205 lbs: Krzysztof Jotko vs. Makhmud Muradov
265 lbs:  Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Ciryl Gane
125 lbs: Poliana Botelho vs. Gillian Robertson
205 lbs: Modestas Bukauskas vs. Jimmy Crute
170 lbs.: Muslim Salikhov vs. Claudio Silva
185 lbs.: Yong Jin Park vs. John Phillips
205 lbs.: Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Maxim Grishin
135 lbs.: Said Nurmagomedov vs. Mark Striegl
170 lbs.: Mounir Lazzez vs. David Zawada
