Brian Ortega vs. Korean Zombie

Report: Brian Ortega vs. Chan Sung Jung finalized for October 17

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, a long sought after fight between top featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung has been set to headline a UFC Fight Night card on Oct. 17 at a location that has yet to be decided.

Ortega and “The Korean Zombie” were originally slated to meet this past December in Jung’s home of South Korea, but “T-City” was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering a knee injury. This lead former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar to accept the bout on short notice and it eventually ended with Jung winning via first-round TKO.

Since December, the rivalry between the two has heated up as well, as both Ortega and Jung have taken shots at each other on social media. In addition, Ortega was involved in a brief public altercation with a friend of Jung’s, rapper Jay Park, at a UFC event earlier this year in Las Vegas, only adding to the bad blood and to the story behind the fight.

By the time the two contenders meet, Brian Ortega will have been on the sidelines for close to two years, having last come up short against Max Holloway in a title fight in December 2018. Prior to his bout against the Hawaiian, Ortega had won six-straight UFC fights with all six of them ending by stoppage. Overall, he owns a 14-1-1 record with seven victories by way of submission.

The Korean Zombie”, meanwhile, has won three of his last four bouts since making his return in 2017 after serving out his mandatory military duties. All three of those victories came by way of T/KO over the likes of Dennis Bermudez, Renato Moicano, and Edgar. A former featherweight title challenger, Jung holds a 16-5 professional record with 14 wins by stoppage.
