Ricky Simon hands Jack Shore his first defeat at UFC on ABC 3

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us today, July 16, 2022, for UFC on ABC 3, going down live from the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Headlining the event is a clash of top featherweight contenders, as former title challenger Brian Ortega (15-2) faces Yair Rodriguez (13-3) in the main event of the evening. Co-headlining the event is a women’s strawweight bout between Michelle Waterson (18-9) and Amanda Lemos (11-2-1).

Our preliminary co-main event came in the bantamweight division between top prospects in former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion Jack Shore (16-0) and former LFA bantamweight champion Ricky Simon (19-3).

Official Result: Ricky Simon def. Jack Shore via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:28 of round two

Simon opens up the bout with a nice calf kick to the outside of Shore’s leg, before going inside with it. He ties up with Shore and presses him into the fence throughout the first round in search of a takedown, though he’s unable to secure any.

But, every time Shore starts to land, Simon is right on him.

Simon is able to take Shore down in the second, as he gets under his legs, picks him up with a double, walks him across the cage and violently slams him into the canvas.

Shore is back to his feet quickly however, but he’s still being controlled.

Once they’re back to striking range, Simon lands a short right hand that badly stuns Shore.

Simon immediately takes side control, jumps to mount, and sinks in the arm-triangle choke, showing off his BJJ skills by tapping a fellow black belt.

Ricky Simon has now won his last five-straight fights, this being his third finish in that stretch.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
