When matchmaking goes wrong…. Rico Verhoeven vs Bigfoot Silva at GLORY 46
Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva has struggled of late when it comes to mixed martial arts, but that did not stop GLORY Kickboxing officials from pairing the former UFC heavyweight fighter up against the world’s best heavyweight striker Rico Verhoeven.

Verhoeven, the GLORY kickboxing heavyweight title holder is on a seven fight win streak, while Silva, has not won a fight since August 2015. In fact, ever since Silva defeated Fedor Emelianenko in February 2011, he has had 14 fights.
Now here comes the stunner
Silva has won three fights out of 14. Just three. In his last eight fights he has lost seven of them by way of TKO or KO.
But….. let’s throw him in there with the heavyweight champion of the world. Sure, the fight is scheduled to be a non-title affair, but what ever happened to giving title shots to fighters who deserve them? More importantly, whatever happened to fighter safety? The matchup seems entertaining, but it should have been made either years ago, or in a perfect world, after Silva hasn’t been knocked out so many times consecutively.
GLORY 46 takes place Oct. 14 at Guangzhou Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China. Silva vs. Verhoeven headlines the SuperFight Series portion of the card, which streams on UFC Fight Pass.
