Ritu Phogat on ONE: Battleground win and Atomweight Grand Prix
Ritu Phogat bested Lin Heqin via unanimous decision inside the ONE Circle. This transpired at ONE: Battleground on July 30th from Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The accomplished wrestler was able to thoughtfully control Heqin positionally. Working in solid ground and pound to get back to the win column.
Ritu Phogat was coming off of a polarizing decision defeat to Bi Nguyen at ONE: Dangal. A contest where many thought Phogat should have had her hand raised.
Post-fight, Phogat discussed snapping Lin Heqin’s eleven-fight win streak. As well as the desire to reintegrate herself into the Atomweight Grand Prix field.
I spoke with The Indian Tigress with the aid of a translator at this ONE Championship post-fight press conference.
Ritu Phogat
Snapping the eleven fight win streak of Lin Heqin and if Lin Heqin did anything that functioned outside of Ritu Phogat’s pre-conceived notions
“She says that she doesn’t think that Lin’s done anything unexpected. Had well studied her opponent and she was completely unperturbed by Lin’s actions. She was pretty much in control, so she knew one thing. That she had to give her best. Did not let anything stress her out during the game. She had learned her opponent really well to not leave the door open for any unexpected surprises to come her way.”

The women’s Atomweight Grand Prix being redirected to early September. Plus, Ritu Phogat’s desire to reintegrate herself into the tournament field
“So, Ritu says, yes, that’s her focus and that’s the ultimate goal. There’s no variation in that and she’s performing. She’s been performing so well because she wants to find a solid position for herself at the Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix. With the consistent wins she’s issuing, she deserves every bit of Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix. She thinks that she is the best contender on the ONE panel right now. One of the best contenders.”
