Rob Font impresses with first-round stoppage over Adrian Yanez at UFC 287

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, April 8, 2023, for UFC 287, going down live from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Headlining the event is a middleweight championship rematch, or quadrilogy, however you look at it, as current champion Alex Pereira (7-1) aims to make the first defense of his newly claimed title opposing former champion Israel Adesanya (23-2).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight contenders’ bout between a pair of former title challengers where no. 5 ranked Gilbert Burns (21-5) takes on no. 11 ranked Jorge Masvidal (35-16).

Our feature fight of the evening came in the bantamweight division as no. 6 ranked Rob Font (19-6) faced no. 12 ranked Adrian Yanez (16-3).

Both of these men are elite strikers, primarily with their boxing.

We knew we were in for a treat with this one!

Font came into the bout on a two-fight skid, having lost his most recent bouts to former WEC & UFC champion Jose Aldo, as well as fellow top contender Marlon Vera. Prior to that, he’d won four-straight over the likes of current Bellator champion Sergio Pettis, former LFA champion Ricky Simon, former multi-time WSOF champion Marlon Moraes, and former UFC champion Cody Garbrandt.

Yanez on the other hand was perfect thus far into his UFC tenure, winning all five fights he had in the promotion, securing post-fight bonuses in all five appearances.

Official Result: Rob Font def. Adrian Yanez via TKO (punches) at 2:57 of round one

Font opens up the bout with a beautiful overhand right, and lands another not long thereafter.

Yanez throws back a nice overhand right of his own and we have a fight!

Font then establishes his jab and gets to work.

Both men spend the next two minutes absolutely throwing down, Font landing the more frequent, more devastating punches of the two. Font seemingly can’t miss these combinations. He then lands a vicious right hand that floors Yanez, and some follow up punches later the referee was forced to stop the fight.

Adrian Yanez is incredibly durable, this performance truly speaks to what Rob Font is capable of.

This was a war for as long as it lasted.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
