Rob Font vs. Jose Aldo set to headline fight card on December 4
Jose Aldo is still on his journey for bantamweight gold. Aldo has been on a roll since making the move down to 135 pounds and now will be facing title contender Rob Font on a fight night card in December. The news was first reported by Combate on Monday. This could be a possible title contender fight in the making. The fight is targeted to headline the event in Las Vegas, NV.
Aldo may very well go down as one of the greatest to have ever set foot in the UFC Octagon. His featherweight title run was Hall of Fame material, but since losing his title to Conor McGregor he has had some problems. After spending over ten years fighting at 145 pounds, Aldo made the decision to drop to bantamweight and pursue one more title. He lost his first title shot at bantamweight against Petr Yan, but that hasn’t stopped him. He has won two in a row against tough opponents, but now perhaps his toughest test will be coming up.
Font is on a four-fight win streak, with a win over former champion Cody Garbrandt in the mix. This will be the second headlining bout in a row for Font, who has gone to decision in three of his last four.
With champion Aljamain Sterling out of his upcoming bout with Yan, an interim title could be made. This fight will be taking place after UFC 267, so each of these men is out of that possibility. The top five of the bantamweight division are all possible contenders at this point, throw in TJ Dillashaw also who is waiting for a title shot or a shot at Aldo. All of these factors make this a must-win for both Font and Aldo.
The December 4 fight card to date is as follows:
José Aldo vs. Rob Font
Rafael Fiziev vs. Brad Riddell
Brad Tavares vs. Brendan Allen
Bryan Barberena vs. Matt Brown
Chris Gruetzemacher vs. Claudio Puelles
Montserrat Conejo vs. Mallory Martin
