Rob Font vs Marlon Vera to headline April 30 UFC event
The UFC continues to amaze us with stellar matchmaking, and nothing changes here, as bantamweight contenders Rob Font and Marlon Vera headline UFC Fight Night 208.
This event is to go down on April 30, 2022, at the UFC Apex in Paradise, Nevada.
Font comes into the bout ranked at No. 5, while Vera comes in ranked at No. 8.
This is such a great match up for so many reasons, so let’s get into them:
Font is one of the better pure boxers this sport has to offer, and aside from his last appearance, where he was defeated by former featherweight champion Jose Aldo, he was on a four-fight win streak coming in.
What was so impressive about this, all four of those wins came over champions, three world champions:
Sergio Pettis (current Bellator bantamweight champion), Ricky Simon (former LFA bantamweight champion), Marlon Moraes (former WSOF bantamweight champion), and Cody Garbrandt (former UFC bantamweight champion).
Vera, like Font, was last defeated by Jose Aldo.
He’s 8-2 in his last ten outings, and the only other defeat came to Song Yadong up at 145 lbs, a fight everyone aside from the three judges thought he won. He’s been absolutely dominant as of late, and he’s the only man to this day to boast a win over Sean O’Malley.
His last two encounters showed him victorious over Davey Grant (UD), who’d actually beaten him previous, and Frankie Edgar (KO).
Vera can make mid-fight adjustments like no other, part of the reason he’s won so many fights, and also part of the reason he finishes so many opponents, often times late in the fight.
It’d appear Vera would have the advantage on the mat, boasting a black belt in BJJ and a number of submission victories to go along with it, but on the feet, this could be anyone’s fight.
Font comes into the bout with a record of 19-5, boasting eight knockouts, four submissions, and seven decisions.
Four of those defeats came via decision, with just one via submission.
Vera on the other hand comes in with a record of 18-7-1, securing seven knockouts, eight submissions, and just three decisions. He, like Font, is tough as they come, with all seven of his defeats coming via decision.
