Roufusport’s Laura Turzenski prepared to be at her best as AOW 25 fight week has arrived
Video interview with Laura Turzenski above
Art of War Cage Fighting will be hosting their 25th event on July 16th at the beautiful Newtown Athletic Club. AOW 25 features surging heavyweight Patrick “the Brick” Brady welcoming Cam “The Big Mac” Graham to the cage in the main event. Brady’s teammate at Martinez BJJ, Matt “White Chocolate” Turnbull faces the explosive Chaka Worthy in the co-main event.
The pro/am fight card is stacked with a bunch of interesting matchups and MyMMANews will be right in the middle of it. In a featured women’s bout, Laura Turzenski and Christine Williams will meet in the middle of the cage to exchange pleasantries. Williams (0-1) has been working hard in the gym and competing in grappling tournaments since her debut at AOW 17. She showed a ton of heart but came up on the wrong side of the judges’ scorecards against Gabrielle Giordano.
Turzenski won her debut with a beautiful triangle choke submission and then came back with a closely contested matchup which she lost via decision and stands at 1-1. She will be traveling in from Wisconsin, where she trains at Roufusport MMA Academy, with her life partner and professional fighter, Lenny “the Gorilla” Rufati. Rufati is originally from the South Jersey/Philadelphia area so they will feel quite at home while visiting from the mid-west.
MyMMANews caught up with Turzenski as fight week is here to see how she was feeling about her camp and how she sees the fight. She tells us…
“Of course, I would like it to be short and sweet. I do believe I have knockout power, but Christine has also been working hard and I am prepared for anything wherever the fight goes. I have also been at Ben Askren’s gym working on my wrestling and defense and trying to become as well-rounded a mix martial artist as possible. I still love my jiu-jitsu and boxing is my background, but my last fight, I thought I rushed in too much and left myself open for the take-down. It’s been almost a year and I’m glad to get back in there.”
