Rousimar Palhares stripped of WSOF title, suspended indefinitely
After his most recent actions at WSOF 22, WSOF President Ray Sefo has stripped Rousimar Palhares of his WSOF welterweight title and suspended indefinitely.
The announcement came on today’s episode of ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani after Palhares defeated Jake Shields this past Saturday night.
Some are calling Palhares “the dirtiest fighter in MMA” after raking the eyes of his opponent several times as well as not immediately releasing a submission hold after the fight had concluded.
This was not the first time that Palhares had done such.
On October 9, 2013, Palhares won his UFC welterweight bout against Mike Pierce via heel hook submission in 31 seconds. Pierce appeared to tap several times physically and verbally and the ref intervened physically before Palhares let go.
