Aoki is a former multi-time champion in ONE’s lightweight class and still ranks in the division’s top five. Northcutt is making his first foray to lightweight within ONE Championship.
Sage Northcutt vs Shinya Aoki
Shinya Aoki is currently on a multi-fight win streak in the ONE Championship Circle. He has bounced back nicely since losing his lightweight crown to Christian Lee in May 2019.
Aoki’s last bout him submit James Nakashima who was just coming off of contending for ONE’s welterweight title in an effort Nakashima largely dominated. The rear-naked choke victory for Aoki happened in less than three minutes this January at ONE: Unbreakable.
It has been close to two years since Sage Northcutt last got out there and competed. Super Sage looks to regain traction and return to the win column after having a three-fight win streak under the UFC banner snapped when he crossed over to ONE.
Northcutt’s last outing was his ONE Championship debut in May 2019. He was violently knocked out by Cosmo Alexandre less than thirty seconds into their 185 lb bout at ONE: Enter The Dragon.
A myriad of injuries were sustained in that defeat and Northcutt went through a meaningful recovery period to ready himself for this return to action.
Sage Northcutt’s sophomore effort in the ONE Championship Circle sees him drop down to a more familiar weight category as it relates to his prior UFC, Legacy FC, and Fury FC efforts.
Does Shinya Aoki reassert his lightweight dominance or does Sage Northcutt shake the rankings up?
