Sam Alvey and Jung Da Un fight to a Split Draw at UFC 254

The reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is back at UFC 254 tonight, Saturday, Oct. 24. He is set to defend his title against the current interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in the event’s headliner in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker welcomes the surging Jared Cannonier.

Kicking off the prelims will be a light heavyweight matchup between Da Un Jung and UFC veteran “Smile’N” Sam Alvey

Jung (13-2) will be making his three octagon appearance. The 26-year-old is 2-0 in the UFC with wins over Khadis Ibragimov and Mike Rodriguez.

Alvey (33-14) has had a rough few years as his last win came in June of 2018. Since then he’s lost four in a row.

Rounds 1

Feeling out process to start things out as the first minute is very slow.

Jung is pressing forward and controlling the octagon. He’s the more aggressive fighter, but Alvey has landed a few heavy left hands.

Jung lands a nice combo at the halfway point of the round.

Alvey lands a beautiful left hand that makes Jung’s legs buckle and Jung tries to laugh it off.

Alvey is grabbing his eye like he got poked but the referee said it was a punch and Jung lands a few nice combos off of it.

Close round. Both fighters had their moments. While Jung controlled the pace, Alvey landed some heavy shots and actually ended up out landing Jung. Should be interesting to see how the judges score that one.

Round 2

Alvey starts out the round swinging and lands a nice one-two to begin the round.

Jung is pressing forward, but every time he goes to strike, Alvey meets him with a punch.

Jung goes upstairs with a kick and its partially blocked. Alvey then returns with a punch.

Alvey is having success with the leg kicks. he’s a perfect 10 for 10 with those.

With a little over a minute to go, Alvey comes forwards with a fury of punches. He then follows up with another calf kick.

Jung is starting to be very inactive and Alvey is staying busy. Alvey wins this round easily.

Round 3

Jung lands a huge right elbow and drops Alvey to start off the final round. Jung tries for ground and pound, but Alvey is quick to start scramble out of danger.

After a brief few seconds against the cage, Alvey is out of danger and now he’s landing uppercut after uppercut. That uppercut has been there all fight and he’s going to it a lot in this final round.

Jung with another huge elbow and he really hurt Alvey with it. Alvey was bleeding from the nose before the round began, but now it’s coming out a little bit more.

The two are now in the clinch and are against the fence.

Jung with another big elbow. He takes the round. It’s going to come down to how the judges score the first round.
