Sawyer Depee earns fifth BKFC victory with a jaw-dropping, first-round knockout

The judges weren’t needed at BKFC Fight Night Denver on Friday night as all of the action-packed event’s bouts resulted in highlight-reel stoppages in Denver, CO.

The event streamed live worldwide on the BKFC App from under the bright lights of the sold-out National Western Center.

In the highly anticipated main event, Sawyer Depee earned his fifth BKFC victory with a jaw-dropping, first-round knockout over Keegan “The Career Killer” Vandermeer. The red-hot Lolo, MT cruiserweight contender dropped the hometown favorite Vandermeer three times. Time of the stoppage was 1:33. Depee is now 5-2 with all of his wins coming by first-round stoppage, while Vandereer moves to 2-2.

“I want to go for the belt. That’s what we’re here for, that’s what we’re chasing, and I want it,” Depee told the sold-out National Western Center.

In the co-main event, debuting Denver welterweight Josh “Hellboy” Huber made a first impression to remember by flooring the previously unbeaten Andrew “The Golden Boy” Yates five times en route to the fourth-round TKO victory. Time of the stoppage was 1:47. Yates, who hails from Fruita, CO, is now 2-1.

“I really have to thank my opponent for the opportunity. I wanted to take on a tough guy in my debut, so this feels amazing,” Huber told the jam packed National Western Center. “I think I have the perfect style for BKFC. I hit hard, I have a good chin. I’m one of the younger guys on the card, so I think I’ve got a bright future, and I’m ready to go.”

Rockwall, TX strawweight prospect “Crazy” Cristina Crist earned the first victory of her BKFC victory with a second-round technical knockout over Denver’s Cassie “The Joker” Robb. Time of the stoppage was 52 seconds into the second stanza. Crist is now 1-2, while Robb moves to 0-4.

Denver featherweight Dylan “The Villain” Schulte emphatically upped his BKFC record to 2-1 with a 32-second technical knockout over Roberto “Ell Gallo Negro” Armas of San Benito, TX. Armas, who accepted the fight on short notice earlier this week, sees his BKFC record drop to 2-3 with the loss.

Debuting Denver fighter Lumumba “Heavy Hands Sr.” Sayers needed just 12 seconds to take out Jeremy “The Mormon Meteor” Morrison of St. George, UT in their lightning-fast heavyweight battle. Morrison falls to 0-1.

Twenty-two-year-old Denver lightweight Ramiro Figueroa turned heads in his BKFC debut with a second-round TKO over Brett “Heartless” Hudson, who also hails from Denver. Figueroa logged the sole knockdown of the night in the opening round.

Derrick “Superman” Findley of Indiana, IN dropped Sergio Lopez of Montrose, CO three times to pave the way for the third-round technical knockout victory in welterweight action. Time of the stoppage was 57 seconds into the third frame. Findley is now 1-3; Lopez moves to 0-1.

Kansas City, KS’s Zeb “CWB” Vincent improved to 2-1 in his BKFC career with a second straight stoppage victory over the debuting Casey Moses of Matto, IL in their middleweight showdown. The referee called a stop to the bout due to injury at the conclusion of the third round.

Joseph “The Dark Knight” Creer of Columbus, GA sent Denver’s Daniel “D-Boy” Mitchell to the canvas four times en route to the second-round technical knockout victory in cruiserweight action. Time of the stoppage was 1:08. Creer is now 1-1; Mitchell is 0-1.

Denver’s Matt “Ironfist” Maestas opened the preliminary card with a 44-second knockout over Jessie “The Gym Shark” Stalder of Greeley, CO in their middleweight matchup. He improved to 1-1 with the win, while Stalder falls to 0-2.
