Scott Coker discusses Bellator bantamweights and title picture
Describing 135 lbs as one of the promotion’s best weight classes, Scott Coker discusses Bellator bantamweights at the Bellator on Showtime media day.
A lot of focus centered around the promotion’s 205 lb happenings and it’s understandable why. The announcement of a Bellator Grand Prix for the light heavyweights featured monumental bouts. Fights like Rumble Johnson against Yoel Romero, Vadim Nemkov making his first title defense against a former foe in Phil Davis, etc.
It was announced in the media day though that current king Juan Archuleta who soon defends his gold against Sergio Pettis in May. Several notable names bolster the division though including Josh Hill, Patrick Mix, and so many more.
I asked Scott Coker about the promotion’s bantamweight title picture. Also, the looming presence of former champion Kyoji Horiguchi and thoughts on the weight category overall.
Scott Coker discusses Bellator bantamweights
The name Kyoji Horiguchi was mentioned just a bit before. Also, Juan Archuleta and Sergio Pettis coming up on the horizon. I’m kind of wondering if you’re going to offer up thoughts on how Bellator’s division stacks up on the bantamweight level.
There’s dialogue about the light-heavyweight quality. But as far as Bellator’s bantamweight division, what are your thoughts on how it stacks up on an international level?
“I tell you, I’m really excited about that weight class. We have a bunch of guys we just signed. Magomed (Magomedov) and I think that he can fight anybody on any given day. You know, (Kyoji) Horiguchi will probably be in the mix.”
“We have Sergio, we have Juan. I mean we have a good 10 athletes there that are going to be real exciting and fun to watch. And I would say this…I think light heavyweight, I think our featherweight, and I think our bantamweight division is probably our three strongest divisions. For the amount of talent we have in each one of those weight classes.”
