Sean O’Malley open to fighting Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo following No Contest at UFC 276
UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley is open to fighting Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo following his recent No Contest at UFC 276.
O’Malley’s fight against Pedro Munhoz was declared a No Contest due to an accidental eye poke in the second round of the fight. Although a rematch between O’Malley and Munhoz makes sense considering the fight didn’t have a winner, it appears as though “Suga” is ready to move on, and now he has named some options.
Taking to his YouTube channel, O’Malley said he is ready to move on to the next stage of his UFC fight career, and he’s calling out Yan and Cejudo for his next fight.
“Now I’m ranked No. 9. (The) only other little f*cking weasel on here that doesn’t (have a fight booked) is Petr Yan. He said, ‘Hey pink poodle, call me out if you win.’ (The UFC) didn’t give me the mic to be able to do that. I feel like he is just like Henry (Cejudo), dude, all talk. Just on Twitter, you could talk. Henry doesn’t want that fight or else we can make it happen. Petr, same thing,” O’Malley said (h/t MMAjunkie.com).
Yan is coming off of a split decision loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273 earlier this year where he lost the UFC bantamweight title. He is one of the best fighters at 135lbs still, and he doesn’t have a fight currently booked, which makes him an ideal target for O’Malley. As for Cejudo, he has not fought in two years since he retired from MMA following a knockout win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. However, he has recently announced his intentions on returning to the Octagon by the end of the year, and he is currently being tested in the USADA pool.
It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches up O’Malley with next given his last fight was a No Contest, meaning it’s not exactly clear if the promotion will give him a push forward in the division, give him a step backward, or rematch him against Munhoz.
Who should Sean O’Malley fight next in the Octagon?
