Christine Williams remained active during pandemic, returns to MMA competition at AOW 25
Christine Williams (0-1) will return to action for the second time as an amateur mixed martial artist when she meets Laura Turzenski (1-1) this weekend at Art of War Cage Fighting 25.
The July 16 event, which takes place the Newtown Sports Training Center, pairs the ladies in a catchweight bout at 150-pounds.
The bout is Williams’ second with the Art of War Cage Fighting promotion, having lost a unanimous decision to Gabrielle Giordano at AOW 17 in February 2020.
“My last fight was before the pandemic started so times were a bit different, but I got to compete under the bright lights with a big audience and get that experience under my belt,” Williams said.
Williams chose to sharpen the tools in her toolbox rather than remain sidelined while many of the regional MMA promotions were shut down. In order to branch out and dig her roots deeper in the world of combat sports, Williams stepped into the boxing ring to compete under amateur rules and get more experience on her feet. She’s also continued to craft her ground game as she has participated in multiple jiu jitsu tournaments including Sub-Out Domestic Violence, which helps raise funds for victims of domestic abuse.
Williams gets her MMA training in at Moser’s Mat Club under the guidance of pro MMA fighter and one of Art of War Cage Fighting’s most-beloved competitors, Ben Moser. When not at Moser’s, you can find her training her boxing at Capital Punishment.
“It’s great having Ben as a coach, because he has so much experience with Art of War, even recently, and just MMA in general,” Williams said.
Moser is coming off a first round win at AOW 24 earlier this year and will be looking to return to action once again, but not before his pupil enters the cage in Newtown.
Williams will be cheered on this weekend by her young daughter, boyfriend, and her parents, along with other friends and family.
