Sean O'Malley, malley, O'Malley puts Wineland away with overhand right

Sean O’Malley set to return to the Octagon at UFC 260 against Thomas Almeida

Sean O’Malley has announced his next fight.

The rising star took to his YouTube channel to announce he just signed a contract to face Thomas Almeida at UFC 260. The location of the fight is still TBD, but O’Malley says he hopes it is in Las Vegas.

Sean O’Malley is coming off his first career loss as he suffered a first-round TKO to Marlon Vera at UFC 252. In the fight, his ankle gave out which caused him to fall several times and “Chito” jumped on top of him and ground and pounded him out. Before that, he scored a highlight-reel one-punch KO over Eddie Wineland. He also holds UFC wins over Jose Quinonez, Andre Soukhamthath, and Terrion Ware.

Thomas Almeida, meanwhile, returned to the Octagon in October and lost a clear-cut decision to Jonathan Martinez. Before that, he was TKO’d by Rob Font and lost a decision to Jimmie Rivera. However, in his early run in the UFC, the Brazilian looked like a killer with stoppage wins over Brad Pickett, and Anthony Birchak. Yet, after his KO loss to Cody Garbrandt, he went 1-3 and has dealt with some eye injuries.

It is interesting to see this fight come together as Sean O’Malley said on his YouTube channel Almeida turned him down for UFC 258.

“I just got done training in my own garage, in my own cage this morning. It was fun. I was supposed to be fighting February 13 against da-da-da. I didn’t say it because I didn’t know,” O’Malley said. “But I got offered Thomas Almeida. He said my left hand was too powerful. Or no, he said my right hand was too powerful or something along those lines of COVID or something.

“So he turned the fight down. A good decision on his part as it would have been a nasty KO. So we are still looking,” he continued. “But that’s who I was planning on fighting. I never announced it because obviously, it was never official. And it is not official, and it’s not going to be official. So that fight is not happening. Still looking. I plan on fighting in February.”

Obviously, O’Malley did not fight in February but the good news is, is that he will return on March 27.
