Shane Burgos eyes August return following win over Cub Swanson
Shane Burgos spoke with MyMMANews.com to discuss his big win over Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa. The event took place May 4 at the Canadian Tire Centre and the featherweight contest took place on the main card, which saw Burgos win the fight via split decision.
“Hurricane” discusses his preparation, whether or not he was surprised by anything in the fight, his reaction to one of the judges scoring the fight 30-27 for Swanson, the respect he has for Swanson, Alex Volkanovski’s performance over the weekend, Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar being booked, his visit to meet fans of his at a local high school, his pick for the UFC Rochester main event and more.
Burgos also discussed wanting to return in August. As a refreshing change of pace, the 28-year-old isn’t the type to call anybody out — despite putting himself in a position for another big fight. Burgos, however, has a certain characteristic he’ll be looking for when he signs the dotted line.
“The division is stacked. There’s no one in particular that stands out,” Burgos told MyMMANews.com. “Whatever is going to get me closer to the belt. Anyone in the top-15 will work. Featherweight is probably the most underrated division in terms of how stacked and how juicy that division is. The top-15 is a line of killers if you really look at it, so to be in that mix — which I feel I belong — it’s an honor. Nobody really sticks out. Whoever is going to be fun for me, whoever is going to be fun for the fans (is what I’m looking for next).
