UFC on ESPN+ 9 results – Cerrone vs. Iaquinta – UFC Ottawa

The UFC comes to the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, May 4.

In the main event, two veterans of the sport collided as lightweights Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone met Al Iaquinta at 155-pounds.  Absolutely incredible fight but it was the New York real-estate agent Iaquinta who would get battered and bloodied throughout the majority of the fight.  At the end of the fight, it was Cowboy who would have his hand raised in victory and would celebrate with his infant son at the center of the octagon.

A pair of gritty middleweight in Derek Brunson and Elias Theodorou locked horns in hopes to rise towards title contender status. Instead, it was a lackluster fight that saw Theodorou run a great deal, trying to escape the hands of Brunson.

Also, “Hurricane” Shange Burgos got the biggest test of his career as he meets hard-hitting Cub Swanson at 145-pounds. What an absolute war between Burgos and longtime veteran of the sport, Swanson. Incredibly close fight that is ruled a split decision in favor of Burgos.

The event kicked off at 5 p.m. ET and both the preliminary and main cards can be viewed on ESPN+. Get your FREE 7-day trial here.

In the opening bout of the night, UFC newcomer Cole Smith earned his seventh professional win with a unanimous decision over the returning Mitch Gagnon.
