Shane Manley, pro MMA fighter, shot in stomach at Orange Crate Brewing Company

Professional mixed martial artist Shane Manley is recovering from injuries sustained while working as a bouncer at Orange Crate Brewing Company in Syracuse, New York over the weekend.

A GoFundMe Page which was set up describes in detail what happened.:

“On early Sunday morning, May 15th, a shooting occurred outside one of the most popular student bars in Syracuse; Orange Crate Brewing Co. With it being graduation weekend, the scene was packed with students, recent graduates, family, and friends all celebrating their achievements. Shane Manley was working security and his selfless actions prevented what could have been a much worse situation after a dispute between two individuals erupted outside of the main entrance. Shane intervened and kept these individuals from entering the facility with a handgun. He was shot once in the stomach and was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently waiting on a second surgery, and we are hopeful that he will be okay.

“Shane is a coach, friend, mentor, talented MMA fighter, and jiu-jitsu practitioner. He provides training for underprivileged youth in the Syracuse community. Shane works security at Upstate University Hospital and Orange Crate Brewing Co.

“Shane grew up in Upstate NY and continues to give back to his community in every way possible. He is always willing to lend a hand and asks for nothing in return. As he recovers from his sustained injuries, funds will be used to help cover medical expenses and lost income from being out of work.”

According to a report from Syracurse.com, a Syracuse man has been arrested on a felony weapon possession charge after being accused of fleeing the scene.

Ricardo L. Smith, 56, was arrested hours after the 1:20 a.m. shooting Sunday that left a bouncer (identified as Manley) in critical condition after being shot in the stomach at Orange Crate, according to court records.

Smith is accused of fleeing the scene with an illegal gun and hiding the weapon in a car. But he has not yet been publicly linked to the shooting itself.

The investigation into the shooting itself remains ongoing, according to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.

Manley holds a pro MMA record of 5-5 and has fought for promotions such as Bellator MMA, Cage Titans, CES, Ring of Combat, and CFFC, among others.
