Shawn Teed talks Bellator debut: “I’m going to finish him!”

On Thursday, October 15th, Bellator 249 will mark the debut of heavyweight-Jiu Jitsu specialist, Shawn Teed. That very evening marks the start of the next chapter in the promising heavyweights’ young career.

A longtime veteran of CFFC, Teed worked tirelessly throughout the years, grinding and fighting for the promotion. It was in CFFC that Teed defeated the likes of current UFC fighter Chris Daukus and more, knowing the only way to the top was to grind. He utilized that mentality all the way to the top of the CFFC. Ultimately, becoming their heavyweight champion.

In just a few short days, Teed faces Steve Mowry in his Bellator debut.

“I think it’s gonna be a great flight,” Teed says about the matchup. “He has a decent skill set. It really plays well into mine. I don’t think it’s going to be one of those things where it turns into a pure jujitsu match. I feel like we’re going to cancel each other out in certain aspects and you know, we’ll see where the fight goes but I am super pumped for the fight!”

Knowing, he’s facing another Jiu-Jitsu specialist, Teed laughs while claiming, “I’m the arm guy around here.” Delving into the two fighters’ individual skillset, Teed is as honest as it comes. “He would have to get me into that spot” (for submission attempts). He does some things that I think play into my wheelhouse very, VERY well. But if it goes to the ground, I’m very comfortable there! From what I’ve seen, he hasn’t versed people very comfortable or very versed on the ground. They seem like they panic and give up little things. If we get to that kind of scenario, I’m pretty comfortable on the ground. On my back. In his guard. I think that it’s going to be a little bit different fight than he’s used to.”
