Shogun Rua 2 vs. Ovince Saint Preux added to UFC 274
The rematch between former UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua and Ovince Saint Preux has been added to UFC 274.
According to AG Fight, Rua and Saint Preux will meet at UFC 274, an event that currently does not have a date or location set for it. This is a rematch between Rua and OSP, who previously met back at a UFC Fight Night event in 2014. In that fight, OSP won in just 34 seconds when he knocked Shogun out. Now, all these years later, the two fighters will meet each other in a rematch that could very well mark the end of Shogun’s legendary’s MMA career.
Rua (27-12-1) is a former UFC champion but at age 40, he is in the final phase of his MMA career. The last time we saw Shogun fight, he was knocked out by Paul Craig in November 2020. That loss actually snapped a three-fight unbeaten streak for the legend, but the fact he was so brutally finished by Craig is not a good sign going forward. Shogun has said he has just one or two fights left, and that will likely be determined by the result of this bout.
Saint Preux (25-16) is now 38 years old and he has struggled in recent years. OSP enters this fight coming off of back-to-back knockout losses to Tanner Boser and Jamahal Hill. He did knock out Alonzo Menifield in 2020, so OSP still has some power in his hands, but his chin is not as strong as it used to be. That being said, OSP is still going to have the mental advantage of knowing that he knocked out Shogun in the past, and although his chin is going, he still has power, which is why OSP will certainly have a puncher’s chance at beating Shogun once again in this rematch.
