Smilla Sundell Folds Natalia Diachkova With Body Shot In ONE Fight Night 22 Main Event
ONE Championship (ONE) returned to the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium with ONE Fight Night 22: Sundell vs. Diachkova.
In the main event, 19-year-old teenage sensation Smilla Sundell overcame her toughest test yet scoring a come-from-behind victory over Natalia “Karelian Lynx” Diachkova.
Diachkova started fast and aggressively, peppering Sundell with left and right combinations that found the mark. By the middle of the first round, Sundell’s face showed noticeable wear as Diachkova continued to connect with power shots.
However, “The Hurricane” stayed true to her moniker and kept pushing the pace in the second frame, forcing her Russian opponent on the back foot. A crushing left hook to the body took the wind out of Diachkova’s sail, as she was left defenseless in her corner.
Sundell tagged Diachkova with three more left hooks to the head, followed by a series of knees, forcing referee Olivier Coste to call a halt to the contest.
In the co-main event, Akbar Abdullaev scored his third straight finish in ONE Championship, taking out Halil “No Mercy” Amir in a battle of undefeated featherweight MMA rising stars.
The fight featured tense grappling exchanges, as both men looked to jockey for prime position in the ring. Amir used his taekwondo background to keep Abdullaev on the defensive, as the latter opted to close the distance and move in for takedowns.
In the second stanza, Abdullaev turned up the heat and connected with a fierce combination as the two separated from the clinch. A thunderous left hook landed right on the button for the Kyrgyzstani athlete, knocking Amir out cold with only seconds left in the round.
