Soren Bak and Daniel Weichel quotes at Bellator 261 Media Day

Bellator 261 takes place on Friday, June 25th live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The fistic festivities broadcast on Showtime. I spoke with Soren Bak and Daniel Weichel at the Bellator 261 Media Day ahead of their respective bouts.

Bak takes on Bobby Lee in a lightweight bout. One that looks promising on paper and one that transpires on the event’s preliminary portion.

Weichel tests skills against the unbeaten Keoni Diggs in a main card featherweight fight. A bout with high stakes for the 145 pound division’s rankings hierarchy for the calendar year.

Soren Bak excerpt

Just curious because obviously, you have accolades at both featherweight and also lightweight. This one being at 155 pounds here.

Are you looking at isolating your focus to this division for the foreseeable future or would you like to concurrently compete at both featherweight and lightweight?

“So I’m looking to make my mark here at 155 pounds. That’s the weight class I’ve been most of my career and I really only took a one-off in 145 pounds. To prove a point really in Cage Warriors to do what (Conor) McGregor did and take both championships. So it’s definitely not the ideal weight class for me. Although I’m not opposed to it somewhere in the future.”

Daniel Weichel excerpt

Just curious because you’re presently ranked number seven in the division, you’re getting ready to fight an undefeated contender in the weight class.

I’m kind of wondering what your broader goals are within the division for the calendar year? Just with this being your first fight of 2021.

“Honestly, I don’t want to look ahead of this fight. Not in one point. Just because in the past, like even the tournament that was like, always a little bit there to look what’s after the next one. Now I really want to focus on this one fight. And I see where I go from there.”
