Stamp Fairtex receives purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, coach says “No one works harder”
Top-ranked ONE Championship atomweight contender Stamp Fairtex was recently rewarded her purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Top-ranked ONE Championship atomweight contender Stamp Fairtex has added another accolade to her growing mixed martial arts resume. Already one of the most coveted and respected strikers in the promotion, Fairtex recently announced she has been rewarded with her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt, another rewarding step as she continues to grow in her martial arts career.
When Stamp Fairtex first entered ONE Championship, she brought with her a well-respected background in Muay Thai and kickboxing and in 2018 she burst onto the scene when she became the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion. Fairtex would continue to add to her championship accolades the following year in 2019 when she defeated Janet Todd for the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai Championship at ONE Championship: Call To Greatness, where she became the promotion’s first ever two-sport world champion.
Although she would lose both titles in 2020, Stamp Fairtex would shift her focus to mixed martial arts and in 2018 she won her fight at ONE Warrior Series 2, earning her a MMA contract with the promotion. She would go on to start her professional career at 5-0 in MMA and although she suffered her first loss in 2021, she would bounce back to win the 2021 ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix, which set her up for a championship fight against the champion Angela Lee, whom Fairtex called her idol.
Stamp Fairtex would unfortunately lose to Lee by second-round submission, the second submission loss of her professional career, but recently, she revealed that she received her purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Fairtex took to her Instagram account, thanking her coach Jason Burnworth for all of his teaching and coaching.
Her coach would then share his own congratulatory words to Fairtex, saying that no one works harder and has a better smile than her.
“Tonight, I had the pleasure and honour of promoting [Stamp] to purple belt. She was my first student at Fairtex over five years ago and has been a blue belt for the last three. No one works harder and has a better smile. I’m so proud of all you’ve accomplished. Big things are coming. Congratulations!” (H/T SCMP)
There is currently no upcoming fight scheduled for Stamp Fairtex this year, but it’ll be interesting to see what improvements have been made in her ground game the next time she competes.
