Stephen Thompson returns to fight Geoff Neal on Dec. 19
Stephen Thompson will step back inside the octagon at the end of this year on Dec. 19 when he takes on Geoff Neal in a welterweight matchup. The news of the fight was first reported by ESPN.
Thompson (15-4-1) last fought in November 2019 at UFC 244 where he earned a unanimous decision win over Vicente Luque. Back in 2016, Thompson challenged Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title and the two fought to a draw. They rematched in early 2017 and Thompson lost a close majority decision. Since then he’s gone 2-2 and both losses where heartbreakers as his loss to Darren Till was a razor thin decision and he was beating Anthony Pettis before ending up on the losing end of a highlight reel knockout.
Neal (13-2) is unbeaten in the UFC and he will also be fighting for the first time this year. He was scheduled to fight Neil Magny in August, but he was forced out of the fight after getting a serious life-treating infection. The last time Neal fought he defeated Mike Perry by a first round TKO.
