Szymon Kolecki, Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting scheduled for KSW 58
KSW 58 will see Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting Szymon Kolecki (8-1) face German veteran Martin Zawada (29-15-1) in the main event while undefeated French sensation Salahdine Parnasse (14-0-1) will defend his KSW featherweight title against exciting Brazilian Daniel Torres (11-4) in the co-main.
Kolecki has made a huge impact since switching to MMA in 2017. The 2008 Beijing Olympics winner has amassed a 100% finishing ratio, owing to his explosiveness and raw power. The 39-year-old made his KSW debut last year defeating Mariusz Pudzianowski in what was billed as the ‘strongest MMA fight of all time’ and he followed this up with a spectacular win over Olympic wrestling bronze medalist Damian Janikowski.
Now Kolecki faces his most experienced opponent to date in the form of Germany’s Martin ‘King Kong’ Zawada. The veteran fighter, who is the brother of current UFC fighter David Zawada, has been fighting professionally since 2003 and has faced the likes of Jan Blachowicz, Mamed Khalidov, Krzysztof Kułak, Lukasz Jurkowski, and Krzysztof Jotko, over the course of his storied career. Most recently Zawada defeated Thiago Silva in a back and forth war last year at KSW 49 and cited his desire for big fights only going forward. Now he competes in the main event of KSW 58 with Polish sporting hero Szymon Kolecki.
While the main event features two veteran sports stars, the co-main showcases the new school. Salahdine Parnasse, widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the world, is back in action and is putting his KSW featherweight title on the line. The 23-year-old has mesmerized KSW fans with his offensive skillset and pure talent ever since joining the promotion back in 2017. His wins over more experienced opponents like Marcin Wrzosek, Ivan Buchinger, and Artur Sowinski, have earned him his moniker as MMA’s version of Kylian Mbappé.
Parnasse will have his hands full at KSW 58, however, as he faces ‘Mr. Fight of the Night’ Daniel Torres. The Brazilian has become a big fan favourite in KSW after winning ‘Fight of the Night’ honours in three or his four contests inside the promotion. The 26-year-old, who is based in Austria, earned his spot as number one contender following back to back wins over UFC vet Filip Pejic and PFL vet Max Coga, respectively.
International fight fans can watch KSW 58 on January 30th live worldwide on www.KSWTV.com and the KSW App.
More bouts for KSW 58 will be announced in the coming days.
